Millionaire PayPal founder Elon Musk’s wife has filed for divorce … TMZ has learned.

The British “Pride and Prejudice” actress — named Talulah Riley — filed the papers on January 17th, citing “irreconcilable differences” … one day before Musk publicly announced the couple’s split on Twitter.

In a telephone interview with Forbes on the 18th, Musk — worth a reported $680 million — made it sound as though he was the driving force behind the divorce, claiming, “I still love her, but I’m not in love with her. And I can’t really give her what she wants.”

The Forbes headline reads, “Elon Musk to Divorce Wife” — but clearly, Talulah beat him to the punch. So far, Elon has NOT filed divorce documents.

It’s unclear who truly wished to end the relationship, or whether it was a mutual decision. {tmz.com}

This certainly puts an interesting spin on things!

I’ve found the first official promotional poster for Talulah’s upcoming film “The Knot”!

Hopefully we can get hold of a larger version soon! And here is an updated synopsis for The Knot, which comes out Feb. 14, 2012:

Soulmates Alexandra (Talulah Riley) and Jeremy (Matthew McNulty) are getting married. At least that’s the plan. Unfortunately for them, nonchalant best man Peter (Noel Clarke), bridesmaid Sarah (Mena Suvari) and an army of naysayers haven’t heard they’re meant to be together. Can missing bridesmaids, crashed cars, a trip to A&E, and a delivery of pigs testicles stand in the way of true love?

and here’s another new synopsis for The Liability:

When 19-year-old Adam agrees to do a day’s driving for his mum’s dodgy boyfriend Peter, it takes him on a 24-hour journey into a nightmarish world of murder, sex trafficking and revenge, in the company of aging hit man Roy.

This is really awful and i’m sad to report it. They seemed so happy together, and it’s hard to believe they are really splitting. Elon taking this public is really unfair and immature, and I hope that unlike Elon, Talulah’s fans can give her the privacy and respect she needs to recover.

Last night Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk announced via Twitter a separation from his wife, the British actress Talulah Riley.

@rileytalulah It was an amazing four years. I will love you forever. You will make someone very happy one day,” Musk wrote.

This morning on the phone Musk commended Riley as “a great woman” with whom he simply fell out of love. They had been together for four years, married for one. Riley has lived away from their home in Bel Air for nearly six months.

“We took some time apart for several months to see if absence makes the heart grow fonder, and unfortunately it did not,” Musk said. “I still love her, but I’m not in love with her. And I can’t really give her what she wants.”

Musk said he will “always be friends” with the 26-year-old Pride & Prejudice star but said it’s “far too difficult to stay married. Every day was just too difficult.”

One major difficulty was a lack of connection on essential character traits, Musk said.

“I think the foundation of love is virtue,” he said, noting such qualities as hard work, sacrifice and excellence. “To the degree that someone has the sort of things that you intrinsically feel are virtuous then your love will increase. It’s the idea that what you as an indiviuadual truly perceive as virtue–not what others want you to perceive or what you think society wants you to perceive but what you really perceive as virtue–is the essential part of the person. What lies within their heart.”

The South African native called Riley the “polar opposite” of his first wife, Justine Musk, who had blogged extensively about the acrimonious terms of their divorce. Elon and Justine have five young sons together.

Musk said he would like to have a meaningful relationship with someone new, though perhaps someone in a different industry.

“The entertainment industry is not known for attracting people with noble virtues–in which case I will need to look elsewhere,” he said. “I haven’t met many people really that would meet those virtues, I suppose. And [if I don't] that would be sad because then I will not have anyone.”

For now, Musk says, he will bide his time.

“I think it would be extremely unwise for me to jump into a third marriage without spending considerable time figuring out if the third one will work–it was never my intention to have a short marriage,” Musk said. “Essentially I’d want to be super sure before getting married again, but I certainly would love to be in a relationship. For sure.”

Riley could not be reached for comment and apparently has not responded to Musk’s tweet. {forbes.com}

Redcar steelworks to star in The Liability film

THE brooding landscape of Redcar’s steelworks is again set to light up the silver screen.

The town’s steelworks and seafront were among the locations when filming for the Oscar-winning movie Atonement took place in 2006.

Scenes shot on the beach and at the steelworks were hailed as among the film’s most iconic moments.

Now the area around the steelworks and South Gare is set to host some of the action for a major new motion picture.

Road movie thriller The Liability, starring Tim Roth (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Planet of the Apes), and Pride and Prejudice star Talulah Riley, is being described as “Get Carter directed by Tarantino”.

It’s actually being directed by Craig Viveiros, whose debut feature drama Ghosted, starring John Lynch, Martin Compston, Craig Parkinson and Art Malik, premiered at the Edinburgh Film Festival.

But one of the producers, Richard Johns of Corona Pictures, cut his film-making teeth in the North-east several years ago.

And next week he’s bringing filming to Redcar, with the steelworks judged the perfect location for an action movie.

The blurb describes The Liability as “a thrilling and darkly comic 24-hour road trip”.

It was written by John Wrathall, whose first feature Good, starring Viggo Mortensen and Jason Isaacs, was released in 2009 by Lionsgate.

Principal photography began in Northumberland on Monday but is being spread across the North-east, including Redcar.

Richard Johns told the Gazette: “Teesside’s dramatic landscapes will add a different creative dimension to the range of North-east locations featured in The Liability.

“I lived in the region for several years and knew that the North-east would provide a unique backdrop for this darkly comedic thriller.

“Having secured investment from Northern Film & Media/Northstar Ventures, we have also been met with an enthusiastic response from the North-east’s local authorities, crews and public. We’re looking forward to making a movie in the region that will travel the world.”

The film is getting £138,000 from Northern Film & Media’s Finance for Business – North East Creative Content Fund investment partnership with Northstar Ventures.

Agnes Wilkie, Northern Film & Media creative director, said: “The Liability adds another high profile, commercial title to our slate of film investments with Northstar Ventures.

“Featuring a strong script, top talent and the stunning locations of North-east England, the film will be a real asset to the fund and region as a whole.” gazettelive.co.uk

The Liability also started filming this week, and was recently funded a large grant from the Finance for Business – North East Creative Content Fund, which called the movie “Get Carter as directed by Tarantino.” Talulah’s part on the movie’s IMDB has also been updated to list Talulah as “the girl”, and Tal has tweeted that her character is the “deadly vigilante”.
